Quran Classes with Translation and Tafseer — Understand What You Recite
By Nazeer AhmadFounder, QuranHub Online Quran AcademyM.A. Arabic & IslamiyatDars-e-Nizami (Tanzeem-ul-Madaris)10+ years teaching Quran and Islamic studies
Millions of Muslims recite the Quran beautifully without understanding a word of it. Translation and Tafseer classes close that gap: they teach you what the verses actually mean, why they were revealed, and how they apply to your life — so the words you recite in Salah finally speak to you.
This guide explains what Tafseer is, who it is for, and how it works at QuranHub — honestly, including who should NOT start it yet.

What Tafseer is — and what it isn't
Tafseer is the explanation of the Quran: what each verse means, the context in which it was revealed, and the lessons it carries. A translation gives you the words in English; Tafseer gives you the meaning behind the words. Together, they turn recitation into understanding.
Tafseer is not a separate religion or a different Quran — it is the same Quran, understood more deeply. And it is taught by qualified teachers, 1-on-1, at your pace — not from a video you watch alone.
Who it is for
Tafseer classes are for readers, not beginners. You should already be able to read the Quran fluently — post-Nazra, with Tajweed in place — because the class is about meaning, not about learning the letters.
That makes it ideal for adults who can read but never understood what they were reading, teenagers moving beyond recitation, and new Muslims who can read Arabic script and want to know what it says. If you cannot read yet, start with Noorani Qaida — Tafseer will be waiting when you are ready.
- Adults who read the Quran but never understood the meanings
- Teenagers ready to move from recitation to understanding
- New Muslims who can read Arabic script and want to know what it says
- Huffaz who memorised the words and now want the meanings behind them
How it works at QuranHub
Classes are live and 1-on-1, 30 minutes each, at times you choose. Your tutor works through the verses with you in three layers: first the word-by-word meaning, then the themes of the passage, then the Tafseer — the explanation, the context, and the lessons. You ask questions as you go, and the pace follows your understanding, not a fixed syllabus.
Classes are taught in English, with Urdu and Arabic support available. The same tutor stays with you every class, and you can switch tutors free of charge if the fit ever feels wrong.
What you study first
You start where your Salah lives: Al-Fatiha and the short surahs you recite every day. Understanding those first changes your prayer immediately — and that early win keeps you going. From there you move to longer passages, building Arabic vocabulary tied to the verses themselves, so the language and the meaning grow together.
Translation vs Tafseer — the difference
A translation tells you what the verse says in English. Tafseer tells you what it means: the occasion of revelation, the background, the scholars' explanation, and how the verse applies. Translation alone can mislead — a single Arabic word can carry meanings no one English word captures. Tafseer is what makes translation reliable.
How to start
Message us on WhatsApp (+1 917 722 5120) and tell us your reading level. Your tutor assesses you in the free trial — 3 real classes, no credit card — and then builds your plan from there. If you are not ready for Tafseer yet, we will tell you honestly and start you on the right step instead.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to read Arabic first?+
Yes — Tafseer classes are for fluent readers. If you cannot read yet, start with Noorani Qaida; most adult beginners complete Qaida in 3–4 months, and Tafseer comes after.
Is Tafseer suitable for kids?+
Tafseer classes are mainly for teens and adults who already read fluently. Younger children learn the meanings of what they recite in simple words inside their regular classes — daily duas, Salah, and short surahs — rather than as a separate Tafseer course.
Which Tafseer do you follow?+
Our teachers explain the meanings of the verses in simple, clear language, in English, with Urdu and Arabic support. If you have questions about approach or sources, ask us on WhatsApp before you start and we will answer plainly.
How much does it cost?+
The same plans as all our classes: $25/month (2 classes/week), $35 (3/week), or $55 (5/week). The 3-day trial is free.
Can I study Tafseer and Tajweed together?+
Yes — many students combine them: Tajweed for correct recitation, Tafseer for understanding. Tell us your goal on WhatsApp and your tutor builds a plan that covers both.
How long does it take to understand the Quran?+
There is no finish date — understanding the Quran is a lifelong journey. But most students begin understanding the short surahs they recite in Salah within the first few months of regular classes.
