Online Tajweed Classes for Adults: Recite Beautifully, Correctly, at Your Pace
By Nazeer AhmadFounder, QuranHub Online Quran AcademyM.A. Arabic & IslamiyatDars-e-Nizami (Tanzeem-ul-Madaris)10+ years teaching Quran and Islamic studies
Online Tajweed classes for adults are for anyone who can already read the Quran but knows their recitation could be better — or anyone returning to the Quran after years away. Tajweed is the set of rules for reciting the Quran correctly and beautifully, and it is learned the only way it can be learned: by reciting aloud to a teacher who hears every sound and corrects it.
Adult classes are private and dignified. There is no group to keep up with and no judgement about your starting level — your tutor assesses where you are in the trial classes and builds from there, one rule at a time, at times you choose in your own timezone. This guide explains what adult Tajweed study covers, how classes work, and how to begin with 3 free trial classes.
- Free 3-day trial · no credit card
- Live 1-on-1 online classes
- Qualified male & female tutors
- 24/7 — every timezone
What Tajweed study covers for adults
Tajweed begins where Qaida ends. If you can read, the work is refinement: the pronunciation points of each letter (Makharij), the rules that govern how sounds change when letters meet, and the stopping and starting rules that shape a recitation. QuranHub's published beginner material introduces the rules in a careful order, starting with Noon Saakinah and Tanween — Izhar, Idgham, Iqlab, and Ikhfa — and the ideas behind them, Ghunnah and Qalqalah.
From there, adult study moves through the further rule families that QuranHub already teaches in its published guides: Madd (lengthening), Meem Saakinah, Waqf (stopping), and Raa. This page does not try to teach those rules in a paragraph each — rules learned from a summary are rarely learned correctly. Instead, your tutor teaches them one at a time, with your own recitation as the textbook, and the linked rule guides below explain each family for reading between classes.
- Makharij: the pronunciation point of each letter
- Noon Saakinah and Tanween: Izhar, Idgham, Iqlab, Ikhfa
- Ghunnah and Qalqalah: the ideas behind the rules
- Further families: Madd, Meem Saakinah, Waqf, and Raa
How adult Tajweed classes work
A class is a live video call with one tutor. You recite, the tutor listens, and corrections happen in the moment — the exact sound, the exact word, the exact rule. That immediate loop is the whole method: Tajweed cannot be learned by reading about rules, only by reciting under correction until the correct sound becomes natural.
You choose the days and times, in your own timezone — early mornings before work, late evenings, or weekends. You need only a phone, tablet, or computer with a camera and an internet connection. If a week gets busy, reschedule by messaging on WhatsApp.
- Live and private: you recite, the tutor listens and corrects
- Rules taught one at a time, through your own recitation
- Class times you choose, in your own timezone
- Reschedule by WhatsApp whenever life gets busy
Starting from different levels
Adults arrive at very different points. Some read fluently but were never taught Tajweed; some read slowly and need Qaida revision first; some are new Muslims learning to read at all. The trial classes include a friendly level assessment, and your tutor's plan follows from it honestly — including telling you if a short Qaida refresher should come before dedicated Tajweed study.
There is no fixed timetable to keep up with and no exam at the end of a set number of weeks. Progress in Tajweed is measured by what your recitation sounds like: fewer corrections on the same passage, steadier rhythm, and rules applied without having to stop and think.
- Fluent readers: refinement and rule-by-rule correction
- Shaky readers: honest Qaida refresher first, if the assessment shows it
- New Muslims: patient, private teaching from the very beginning
- Progress measured by your recitation, not by a fixed timetable
Sisters learning Tajweed as adults
Many adult sisters prefer learning with a female teacher, for comfort and for modesty, and that is easy to arrange. QuranHub has qualified female Qariahs, and you can request one when you book. Classes are private either way: one student, one tutor, no mixed group.
The same applies to any adult who prefers a male teacher. Mention your preference on WhatsApp when you book, and if the fit does not feel right after a few classes, you can request a different tutor at any time.
- Qualified female Qariahs available on request for sisters
- Private classes only — never a mixed group
- Teacher preference set at booking, changeable at any time
Practise that actually improves recitation
Between classes, the most useful practice is reading aloud — slowly, and with attention to the rule you most recently studied. Listening to a good reciter helps your ear, but it does not replace reciting yourself: only your own recitation reveals which sounds still need work, and only your tutor can confirm when a sound is right.
Short, regular practice beats long, rare sessions. A few focused minutes most days, following exactly what your tutor set after the last class, will move your recitation faster than an hour once a week. And if a rule keeps slipping, tell your tutor: revisiting it is the lesson doing its job.
- Read aloud slowly, focusing on the most recent rule studied
- Listening helps the ear, but only recitation reveals what needs work
- A few focused minutes most days beats one long weekly session
- Your tutor sets the practice after each class — no guessing

Frequently asked questions
I can already read the Quran. Do I still need Tajweed classes?+
If you were never taught Tajweed, yes — reading and reciting correctly are different skills. A tutor's assessment in the trial will show which rules need work and where to start.
I am an adult beginner. Should I start with Tajweed or Qaida?+
Qaida first. Tajweed builds on fluent reading, so a beginner starts with the alphabet and joining rules, then moves into Tajweed once reading is steady. Your tutor will confirm the order after the trial assessment.
When are adult Tajweed classes held?+
Whenever you choose — early mornings, late evenings, or weekends, in your own timezone. Tell us your preferred days and times on WhatsApp and we will match a tutor to them.
Can I learn Tajweed with a female teacher?+
Yes. Qualified female Qariahs are available on request, and many sisters choose them. Mention your preference when you book.
How long does it take to improve Tajweed?+
That depends on your starting level, classes per week, and practice. Your tutor will give you an honest personal assessment after the trial — there is no fixed timetable, and progress is measured by your recitation itself.
What do adult Tajweed classes cost?+
Plans are $25 per month for 2 classes per week, $35 per month for 3 classes per week, and $55 per month for 5 classes per week. The 3-day trial is completely free.
What should I practise between classes?+
Read aloud slowly, focusing on the rule you most recently studied, for a few focused minutes most days. Your tutor sets the exact practice after each class.
